The California electric power system operator expected the US state to have record demand this Tuesday (6) as the region experiences a heat wave that is expected to cause temperatures to rise to 47.7 degrees Celsius in the region.

For the seventh consecutive day, residents have been asked to conserve power to avoid power outages. Energy demand is driven by the use of air conditioning.

California has a large solar park (about a third of the generation in the state is from this source), so there is no need to save during the day; The problem is when the sun goes down but the demand for electricity remains high.

Desert fires and rain

In recent days, there have been fires and heavy rains in the desert areas of California.

Expectations indicate that the country is facing a heat wave throughout the week.

“We have entered the most intense phase of this heat wave, and we need to provide double or triple power,” said Elliot Mainzer, executive director of the California system operator, according to the New York Times.
