At the Gramado Festival, Mateus Nacharjeli explains why he accepted the continuation of O Auto da Compadecida (exclusive interview)

In 2000, O Auto da Compadecida hit theaters becoming one of the most critically acclaimed Brazilian films of all time. With Matthews Nachtergell and Selton Melo in the memorable roles of Joao Grillo and Chico, the movie will soon continue – news that touched the hearts of the audience and, of course, the cast. In an interview with QueroCinema, Nachtergaele explains the decision to return to the story after more than 20 years.

“I hope that the audience will receive the emotion that we want to return to after years of love for Auto. Our desire, when we agreed to make O Auto da Compadecida 2, was to return the affection to Brazil, and to celebrate the silver anniversary of the most watched film in Brazil in a beautiful and wonderful way, “explains the actor .

O Auto da Compadecida is a landmark of national cinema, its characters, screenplays and dialogues remembered to this day, and it is perhaps one of the few works that has come close to the consensus of the Brazilian public regarding seeing and appreciating the value of the cinema produced by the country. A sign the cast also acknowledged: “In an effort to remind us all just how amazing we are,” notes Matthews Nachtergill.
