According to information leaked by analyst Jeff Bo, Apple plans to invest in a completely overhauled batch of images for its base iPhone models.

What’s new in the iPhone camera

The next versions, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, should have 48MP sensors, which is a huge improvement over previous models that had 12MP lenses.

This update will put the base models on a par with the premium iPhones in the Pro and Pro Max line, which have already adopted this decision since last year with the iPhone 14 Pro.

Moreover, the leak also mentions ProRAW support as one of the new features expected for the next line of iPhones. This technology, present in the most expensive models since the iPhone 12, aims to improve the processing of captured images, and to facilitate subsequent editing.

    A milestone in Apple phones

The potential change in lenses would mark a major milestone for Apple phones, which have maintained the same resolution since the launch of the iPhone 6S in 2015. While the company has implemented features to maintain image quality over the years, it’s a direct improvement over the tech binding.

According to speculations, the new iPhone 15 rear sensor will be built with three layers. This can help capture more light and produce sharper images, even in low-light conditions. As for the front lens, there is no information or rumors indicating changes similar to those expected for the main camera.

The leaked report also states that improving the cameras could put additional strain on the Cupertino giant’s supply chain, leading to possible delays in delivering the new models to consumers. However, it is important to remember that this concern and the alleged novelty are still just rumors, without official confirmation from the manufacturer.

    “interactive note”

In addition to the new lenses, the more affordable models are expected to adopt a so-called “reactive notch,” known as the Dynamic Island. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus should also come with an A16 Bionic chip in their configurations, as well as a USB-C port, following the same format as Android phones.
