British South Western Railways, which provides services in London, Southeast and Southwest of England, returned to the hands of the state on Sunday (05/25), and began renewing the operation of the trains that the current Labor Party government wants.

Upon his office in July 2024, Prime Minister Kiir Starmer announced a wide plan to reformulate the British railway service, which was privatized in the mid -1990s.

“Today is the water gatherings in our work to restore the railway lines to serve the passengers.”

The South Western service was owned by the public at 1:59 am, local time – however, the first road to be operated under the new property was implemented by a bus due to engineering services on the road.

When did the United Kingdom privatize railways?

Today, British railways have a bad reputation, with frequent cancellation, high ticket prices and confusion about tickets that can be used.

The railways, which have achieved many strikes due to salaries in recent years, were pleased with re -renewal. “Every person in the railway sector knows that privatization (…) did not succeed and do not work,” said Mick Willian, Secretary -General of the ASLEF Federation.

Railways services in the United Kingdom were privatized in the mid -1990s under the offer of the governorate government John Megor, although the rail network remained in the hands of the general railway.

The law that was passed in November paved the way for the 14th railway operator in the country again under the control of the public when their contracts ended – all of which will end at most in 2027 – or rather in non -satisfactory performance cases.

In the case of southwestern railways, the concession ended. The services of operators in southeast and east should be nationalized by the end of 2025. All operations will be assumed by the Great British -owned British railway.

Four operators were already placed under general control due to poor performance, but these measures were originally temporary.

A promise to end the “fragmentation” of the network

Secretary Heidi Alexander stated that the restoration of railway operations will end with “30 years of fragmentation”, but he stressed that the change would take time.

The work government states that re -renewal will provide up to 150 million pounds (1.1 billion dollars) per year as paid compensation to railway operators.

The state controls Ireland in northern, Scotland and Wales for railways.

In Germany, most trains and iron infrastructure are owned by Deutsche Bahn (DB), which is controlled by government.
