Passengers on a flight from Casablanca, Morocco to Manchester, England, on Thursday 15th, waited for their luggage to arrive. The plane had to return to its home country because it had cockroaches in its hold. Information from The Independent newspaper.
According to British Airways, Royal Air Maroc flight AT818 arrived in Manchester on time at 5:20pm local time – but passengers were left without information on the whereabouts of their bags for more than an hour until the cause was known.
According to a passenger interviewed by the newspaper, cockroaches were found in the hold of the plane and as a result no staff were allowed near it for health and safety reasons.
The Independent says that only one luggage compartment was affected and some passengers were able to retrieve their bags. The plane returned to Casablanca while other passengers waiting for luggage were told to go home and wait.
Passenger Karen Gee told the publication that she checked the locator in her suitcase on Friday the 16th and discovered she was in Casablanca. “They probably sealed the plane and took it back to the base with all the luggage on board,” he told the reporter.
Once the British vehicle was in Casablanca, the bags were unloaded and flights continued on regular service to destinations such as Abuja (Nigeria), Geneva (Switzerland) and Paris (France).
Last Sunday, the last regularly operated Royal Air Maroc flight on the 18th was not boarded, with the next flight on the journey scheduled for Tuesday the 20th.
According to Karen, she wants to get her stuff back, but she's afraid to bring the suitcase into her house. “I asked some of my colleagues what to do and the most common answer was don't take the risk, burn everything,” he told the reporter.
