    A delegation of foreign ambassadors will visit Itaipu Benacional, in Foz do Iguaçu, West Paraná, on Thursday (27) and Friday (28). The ambassadors of Germany, Australia, Denmark, Spain, the United States, France, India, the United Kingdom and the European Union will participate.

    The visit was invited by Carlos Alberto Franco Franca, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pinto Albuquerque, Minister of Mines and Energy, and Joao Francisco Ferreira, Brazilian Director General.

    The visit will provide planning for the Brazilian electricity sector, with a focus on integrating renewable energies and opportunities for cooperation and investments that are opened up with sector modernization and energy transformation.

    According to the ministries, the Brazilian electric array consists of 85% of renewable energies, compared to 28% of the global average. Brazil is a leader in clean energy technologies and ranks second in the world in hydroelectric power generation.

    Itaipu Binacional is responsible for 10.8% of the electricity consumed in the country. The company is a world leader in clean energy production and a reference in sustainable development work. Itaipu Technology Park is home to the Hydrogen Research Center.

    In addition to visiting the Itaipu plant, the ambassadors will learn about the environmental measures the company has developed. Itaipu received a Water for Life award, by the United Nations (UN), in the “Best Practices in Water Management” category.

    According to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Mines and Energy, the energy and mining sector received the most foreign investment in 2020, accounting for 26% of the total foreign investment in Brazil, which totaled around R $ 45 billion.

    In 2021, the electric power sector is supposed to invest around R $ 24 billion, creating more than 20,000 jobs.

    Also this year, Brazil, along with other international partners, was nominated as one of the pioneers in the United Nations High-Level Energy Dialogue – an initiative that aims to contribute to achieving SDG 7 and accelerate the global energy transition to a low-income economy. Carbon.
