    Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the , and , and sectors propelled shares lower.

    At the London close, the index fell 0.16%.

    The best performers of the session on the index came from M&G Plc (LON: ), which rose 2.37% or 4.70 points to trade at 203.00 at the close of the session. Meanwhile, shares of Rolls-Royce Holdings plc (LON:) added 1.77% or 8.10 points to trade at 465.00 at the end of the day while shares of Rolls-Royce Holdings plc (LON:) Bp PLC ( LON: ), which advanced 1.76% or 8.15 points to settle at 470.85.

    The worst performers of the session were stocks The beginning of Rendog PLC ( LON: ), which declined 2.87% or 12.10 points to trade at 409.30 at the close. Diploma plc (LON: ) was down 2.85% or 120.00 points to end at 4.00, and Admiral Group PLC (LON: ) declined 2.67% or 73.00 points to 2.00.

    Declining stocks outnumbered advancing stocks on the London Stock Exchange by 1175 to 661, while 675 ended unchanged.

    Shares of Rolls-Royce Holdings plc (LON: ) hit 5-year high; 1.77% or 8.10 up to 465.00.

    Gold futures for August delivery were up 0.05%, or 1.05, at $2.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.42%, or 1.83, to settle at $77.36 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for delivery in August rose 2.15%, or 1.71, to trade at $81.33 a barrel.

    GBP/USD was 0.10% unchanged at 1.27 and EUR/GBP was up 0.22% at 0.84.

    The dollar futures index, meanwhile, rose 0.07% to 104.78.
