    The Goma Center itself was not affected by lava. But the city air was difficult to breathe due to the ash and the nearby small villages the explosion destroyed the volcano. Locals do not know what to do, according to reports obtained by The Associated Press.

    “People are still in a state of panic and hunger. They don’t even know where to spend the night,” Alumba Sotoy, a resident, told the AP.

    Goma experienced a similar tragedy in 2002, when the volcano itself erupted and lava reached the city. Hundreds died in that time, and more than 100,000 people were displaced.
