The Xbox Perfect Dark reboot is facing serious issues and may be in a complicated state, according to information from journalist Jeff Grubb at Giant Bombcast. This information was revealed after Microsoft's controversial decision to close some of its studios last Tuesday (7).

Grubb goes on to say that he heard from multiple sources that the game's development has been chaotic and there has been no progress since the project was announced for 2020 at The Game Awards by The Initiative.

VG247 journalist Alex Donaldson reinforced Grubb's information and confirmed that the Perfect Dark development team was unable to advance the project. Video game historian Liam Robertson says the Xbox reboot is a “long-running mess”.

In June 2023, IGN reported that the reboot was in the early stages of development and would take between 2 to 3 years to be released. Since the project was announced in 2020, nothing has been revealed yet and rumors about the stalled development persist.

Rumors also point to issues with developer Sure Affinity, who worked on the game between 2019 and 2021, including serious friction with The Initiative, which is heading up the Perfect Dark reboot project.

In March 2022, VGC revealed that Xbox Studio faced a strong departure of senior developers, which would have had severe impacts on the new Perfect Dark.
