INEOS has proposed to close its ethanol plant in Britain's Grangemouth in the first quarter of next year. In a company statement published by Reuters, the decision was made after a long study and was the result of declining demand for ethanol in Europe, combined with increased pressure from ethanol imports from other regions. “It has lost ethanol business in Grangemouth for several years,” the company said.

The company also said it would begin consultations with employees and the union on the plan. “All employees working with ethanol will be offered a replacement role in our business. In addition, ethanol will be supplied to customers from INEOS' other plant in Herne, Germany,” said Stuart Collings, chief executive of INEOS O&P UK.

The company said it will begin consultations with staff and the union on the proposal. “All employees working with ethanol will be offered a replacement role in our business. In addition, customers will be supplied with ethanol from INEOS' other plant in Herne, Germany,” Collings said.
