Russian missiles hit two buildings in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih on Tuesday, killing three people and wounding at least 38 others, with rescuers searching the wreckage late at night for survivors.
Serhiy Lysak, governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, said the initial number of wounded included 28 adults and 10 children. He then indicated that the rescue operations had ended.
“Two buildings were targeted, one with five floors and the other with nine floors,” Lisak wrote on Telegram.
“The number of wounded is constantly increasing, as is the number of injured children.”
Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the Kryvyi Rih Military Administration, said that at least three missiles were recorded landing in the city.
He added that at least five adults and one of the children who had already been taken to hospital were in critical condition. Nine people were rescued in apartment-to-flat operations and all fires at the site were under control.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was born and raised in the city, praised the rescue teams on Telegram and promised to hold Russia accountable.
“Every day, our cities and towns suffer similar attacks. Every day, Ukraine loses people to Russian evil,” he wrote.
“There can be no pause, not for a day, or a week, let alone a month, to support the simple defense of lives, to save people from terrorism.”
