Android Auto is rolling out version 11.0, with a big change for users, especially those using Samsung devices. The system currently available in the beta channel now features a change in the app and status icons.

When connecting a Samsung Galaxy phone, users will notice a shift in app icons away from the standard circular shapes. In favor of the distinctive “circle” of Samsung’s One UI interface. This is not just an aesthetic change, but also includes replacing certain icons, such as the phone and settings icons, to reflect the aesthetics that are already common on Samsung devices.

Previously displaying the cellular/Wi-Fi icons associated with Pixel devices, Galaxy users will now enjoy visual consistency with the icons on Galaxy devices, including the battery icon.

This change appears to be primarily aimed at Samsung Galaxy devices, as connecting devices from other Android manufacturers, such as Opp or OnePlus, will not result in the same visual adaptation.

Adapting to icon shapes is universal, as evidenced by connecting the Oppo Find N3 Flip, which displays ColorOS’s signature square shapes in Android Auto. These changes provide a more integrated and aesthetically cohesive experience for users, especially those who choose Samsung devices.
