The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday (05) called for an investigation into the attack by military drones, which killed at least 85 people last weekend. Information taken from Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency.
According to the agency, at least 85 people were killed in the attack. The measure targeted some criminals residing in the area, and was implemented last Sunday night (03).
“The Northwestern Regional Office received details from local authorities stating that 85 bodies have been buried so far while searches are still ongoing,” the agency said.
Tinubu is participating in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Nigerian President issued a statement in which he described the bombing of the village of Tondon Biri as an “unfortunate, disturbing and extremely painful” incident.
“The President directs a comprehensive investigation into the case and urges calm while the authorities seriously look into the incident,” the statement read.
The Nigerian Army has not yet commented on this issue. But the Air Force denied its involvement in the attack.
It is worth noting that the Nigerian army has support from the United States and the United Kingdom. Together they face a battle against extremist groups that have been waging air attacks in the country for years.
