The foreign population represents 4.7% of the region’s resident population in 2022 (253,259 people) and is mainly distributed among residence permit holders (11,792), with only one registered long-term visa holder.

Citizens of Venezuela (19.7%), the United Kingdom (11.8%), Germany (9.4%), Brazil (9.2%), and Italy (5.5%) continue to represent the main foreign communities residing in the territory. Among this group of five nationalities, it should be noted that it was the German nationality that registered the largest increase (218 additional people; +24.5%) in the number of foreigners with residence permits (888 in 2021 to 1,106 in 2022). Furthermore, foreigners with German citizenship were the main driver of the increase in the registered foreign population in the region between 2021 and 2022, contributing 2.1 percentage points to the 13.3% increase mentioned above. In the next places are citizens of the United Kingdom, Sao Tome and Principe and the United States of America, who competed for this increase by 1.7 percentage points, 1.3 percentage points and 1.2 percentage points, respectively. The number of foreigners with Venezuelan citizenship decreased by 1.3% between 2021 and 2022: from 2,353 to 2,323, respectively.
