The United Kingdom accused Russia this Monday, 11, of trying to destroy a Liberian-flagged cargo ship in the Black Sea in late August by Ukraine intercepting it and firing multiple missiles.

“Information indicates that the Russian military fired multiple missiles at a cargo ship in the Black Sea on August 24,” the British Foreign Office said in a statement.

The Kalibr missiles were fired from a Russian warship but were “shot down by Ukrainian troops,” the Foreign Ministry added, citing a “Liberian-flagged ship docked in the port” of Odessa as the target.

“Even if this attack fails, it is a clear demonstration of Russia’s continued efforts to suffocate the Ukrainian economy and President Putin’s disregard for the collective life and interests of Africa, Asia and the Middle East.” , British diplomacy said.

In July, Russia announced it was withdrawing from an agreement on Ukrainian grains signed in the summer of 2022. The agreement allowed exports to the Black Sea from one of the world’s major grain and oil producers.

Since the collapse of the agreement, attacks by Russian and Ukrainian forces in the Black Sea have increased significantly.
