Brazil is world surfing champion again. Felipe Toledo, 28, from Sao Paulo, defeated Australian Ethan Ewing in the finals to win his second WSL Championship. The decision on this year’s championship was made on Saturday (9), in Tressels, California, in the United States.
With this achievement, Felipe Toledo becomes the second Brazilian to hold more than one world title. Gabriel Medina is the biggest winner and has three Cups in his career. Brazil was still champion with Adriano de Sousa, Minerinho and Italo Ferreira (also the Olympic champion in 2021).
Felipe Toledo is a two-time world champion in a row. He had already won the title last year.
In history, only seven countries have won the men’s world title: South Africa, Australia, Brazil, the United States, Hawaii, Peru and the United Kingdom.
Women’s final
Five-time world champion North American Carissa Moore lost in the final to compatriot Caroline Marks on Saturday.
Leader all season and favorite to win the title, Carissa ended up disappointingly in the final. He had also lost in the 2022 final and once again lost the chance to win his sixth title.
