The pet cat, Toby, was abandoned by his owners and after walking about 19 kilometers (12 miles) he was able to come home. However, the family was not happy to see the pet and wanted to euthanize the animal.

The case occurred this week in North Carolina, US. According to information from The Mirror, the shelter refused to euthanize the cat and contacted the SPCA animal shelter, also in North Carolina, who agreed to take in the pet. Toby’s story was shared on social media and it had a happy ending.

“When Toby’s family no longer wanted him, they handed him away to another family. But Toby missed them and walked 12 miles home. When he arrived, he was met with disgust. They took him to a shelter and asked the staff to drop him off. The shelter called us at the SPCA to ask if we could take him in and help him with Find a new family. Of course we said yes!”

Toby’s story has been shared thousands of times by people all over the world. He was adopted by a resident of New Hampshire in the United States.
