In 2000, O Auto da Compadecida hit theaters becoming one of the most critically acclaimed Brazilian films of all time. With Matthews Nachtergell and Selton Melo in the memorable roles of Joao Grillo and Chico, the movie will soon continue – news that touched the hearts of the audience and, of course, the cast. In an interview with QueroCinema, Nachtergaele explains the decision to return to the story after more than 20 years.

O Auto da Compadecida is a landmark of national cinema, its characters, screenplays and dialogues remembered to this day, and it is perhaps one of the few works that has come close to the consensus of the Brazilian public regarding seeing and appreciating the value of the cinema produced by the country. A sign the cast also acknowledged: “In an effort to remind us all just how amazing we are,” notes Matthews Nachtergill.
Still without a confirmed release date, O Auto da Compadecida 2 is already in production and the story will follow the reunion between Chicó and João Grilo after the unexplained events of the first film. “Selton and I are so emotional.
