Video game enthusiasts and collectors in Japan seem to be developing a new hobby. In recent days, auction sites have offered prototypes of PS5 development kits for sale at prices bordering on absurdity.
The products can be found on Yahoo Auctions in Japanese and highlight some collectors’ interest in obtaining an item that doesn’t function like traditional consoles. Depending on the platform, prototypes cost from 3,000 to 5,000 euros.
The PS5 dev kit listings remain active on the site and have not been removed. If the items are correct, they will be prototypes sent to studios wishing to work on games for consoles before the equipment is fully finalized.

It’s worth noting that PS5 developer kits consist of hardware loaned from Sony and limited for use by game developers. In this way, anyone who trades or distributes without Sony’s authorization will engage in illegal activity and have a chance to be sued.
