A Netflix Confirmed that Implementation of the policy to combat password sharing will come before July this yearThis appears to be overdue for planned changes.

While revealing financial results for the first quarter of 2023, the streaming giant said it will end password sharing in the US and other countries by the end of the second quarter.

Netflix last year announced a crackdown on password sharing amid declining subscriber numbers and increased competition from rivals such as Disney.

Earlier this year, the company said it would tighten its crackdown on password sharing by the end of the first quarter. As the end of March approached, people wondered when the new rules would be implemented.

The company has been pretty quiet lately, but its non-Netflix customers have complained about the changes online, with some threatening to quit the service.

The outrage is notable for Netflix-using families with college-bound children. Previously, Netflix established rules to allow sharing of passwords in households where children live away from home.

The company would enforce rules requiring devices to be linked to an account once a month, but some felt this would be difficult to enforce in practice.

Netflix seems to have heard these concerns. “With each release, we’re learning more about how to best implement these changes and what’s most important to members, especially maintaining access on the go and the ability for people to better control access to their accounts, as well as transitioning profiles to accounts.“, Netflix wrote in a letter to shareholders.

“We may launch broadly at the end of Q1, but we found enough opportunities for improvement in these areas to delay a broader rollout to Q2 in order to implement these changes.“, he added.

Netflix’s anti-password sharing policy began rolling out in Latin America in 2022, and was later expanded to Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain. People in other parts of the world, including the US and the UK, can expect this to happen before July.
