(Reuters) – OpenAI, the company behind the viral chatbot ChatGPT, said on Tuesday it would offer up to $20,000 to users who report vulnerabilities in its artificial intelligence systems, or so-called “bugs.”

The OpenAI Bug Bounty Program, which launched on Tuesday, will offer rewards to people based on the severity of the bugs reported. Floor $200 per bug.

Technology companies often use bounty programs to encourage ethical programmers and hackers to report bugs in software systems.

According to details from platform bugcrowd Bugcrowd, the company is investigating OpenAI to review certain ChatGPT functionality and the structure of how the company’s systems and tracking data communicate with third-party applications.

The software does not contain incorrect or harmful content produced by OpenAI systems.

The move comes days after ChatGPT was banned in Italy on suspicion of breaching privacy rules, prompting regulators in other European countries to look more closely at generative AI services.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT software, to which Microsoft has a contributor, impressed some users with its quick answers to questions posed on the platform, while causing concern for others with some bugs.
