Manchester will become the first city in the UK to adopt night-time charging from 1 April. Tariffs are local fares that tourists choose to spend each night sleeping at their destination.

Named “City Visitor Fee” (City Visitor Fee), it is 1 pound (R$ 6.40) per night and per room. The amount will be added to the cost of staying in hotels and apartments for a season.

With the new move, Manchester City Council intends to raise £3 million (R$ 19.2 million) a year to fund the new Manchester Inns Business Development District (ABID).

ABID aims to improve the visitor experience and support efforts to grow the tourism economy over the next five years. Six thousand new hotel rooms are planned to open across the city during this period.

ABID President, Annie Brown, believes the fee will not be a deterrent for visitors. Additionally, he said, the decision would also fund curbside and cleanup services for the city.

In the same article by the British newspaper The Independent, there was a quote that Edinburgh in Scotland would also adopt the tax and become the second British city to implement a 2 pounds (R$) tourist tax. 12, 80) for one more night in 2023.
