To date, 22 other mammals have been identified with the avian influenza virus. This is the first case of dolphinarium in the country

For the first time, two dolphins were infected with the H5N1 virus responsible for bird flu and died in the UK. The case was announced by the British government this week.

The animals are found at various locations in February. 22 other mammals in the UK have already been identified with the disease, such as foxes, otters and gray seals.

The government’s most accepted hypothesis so far is that these animals ate dead birds infected with the H5N1 virus.

Although the virus is not yet able to spread between humans, scientists are not yet able to confirm whether it can be transmitted between mammals. In a recent statement, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom, warned of the deadly seriousness of bird flu and advised people not to touch dead or sick wild animals.

“The recent outbreak of mammals must be watched closely. The World Health Organization currently assesses the risk to humans as low, but we cannot assume that it will continue like this, and we must prepare,” Adhanom said during a press conference in February. For any change in the status quo 8.
