The official emblem that will be used in the celebrations of the coronation of King Charles of the United Kingdom, which falls in May, was presented on Friday (10).
To honor Charles’ love of nature, the badge features the plants of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom:
- England: pink;
- Scotland: Thistle.
- Wells: Narcissus;
- northern Ireland: clover flower
Together, the flowers form the shape of St. Edward’s crown, with which the king will be crowned. In addition, the logo was designed to use the red, white and blue colors of the Union Flag.
“The design is inspired by King Charles’ love of the planet and nature and his deep interest in the natural world,” said designer Jony Ive. “The badge speaks of the joyful optimism of spring and celebrates the beginning of this new era for the United Kingdom.”
The coronation of Elizabeth II’s successor will take place on May 6 in London’s Westminster Abbey, maintaining a tradition dating back nearly 1,000 years.
