A fan who made a Nazi salute during a home match at Newcastle United has been banned from all football grounds in the UK.
Shay Usher made a racist gesture towards Tottenham fans during a Premier League match at St James’ Park on 17 October 2021. An investigation was launched after other spectators witnessed the 24-year-old saluting with his right hand while “putting his finger to his mustache”.

Usher pleaded guilty to a racially aggravated public order offense when he appeared before magistrates in Newcastle in April and was fined. And he returned to the same court last Tuesday (19), for a new hearing, where he received a football ban order that will be valid until 2025.
The order prohibits Asher from participating in any organized football match in the UK, which includes Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two and National League matches, as well as matches of the England national team.
The ban order also prevents him from traveling abroad to watch international friendly matches, qualifying matches and tournaments.
Northumbria Police Detective Inspector Gillian Beecroft said: “Hate crimes of any kind will not be tolerated within our communities under any circumstances and I welcome the banning order issued to Asher.
“In the North East, we have some of the most experienced and passionate fans across the country and the overwhelming majority of those who watch the games behave flawlessly. However, when passions run high, as was the case with this particular game, it can let down a small minority and ruin the show.” to others.”
Usher was fined £200, as well as ordered to pay £85 in costs and an additional £34 victim fee, after the racially aggravated offense was admitted at Newcastle Magistrates Court on 27 April and his banning order took effect immediately.
