A number of strikes will affect roads, trains and air transport in the UK this year-end holiday period, this Friday, 2nd. Civil Servants Union PCSIt directs a series of actions in various areas of public administration.

According to PCS, road workers will “take part in a 12-day strike on English roads from December 16 to January 7”. The union says transport may be “paralysed” due to the protests. “We are aware that the actions of our members may cause inconvenience to travelers who want to see family members during the festive season but are forced to do so by a government that does not listen to its own employees,” PCS said in a statement. .

“Given the severe cost of living crisis, they deserve to be properly compensated for the important work they do to keep our roads safe,” he added.

PCS is also expected to announce new dates for strikes in other sectors. At the same time, strikes by railway workers, organized months ago by several unions to demand higher wages to offset inflation, will continue throughout December. Security guards on the Eurostar train, which connects London to continental Europe, have also called for a multi-day strike.

Finally, 350 third-party baggage handlers at Heathrow Airport, one of Europe’s largest airports, also plan to call a 72-hour strike from December 16.

The UK strikes began several months ago emphasized in recent weeksWhen inflation reached 11%.
