The Stopover Compensation Fund (FGTS) is a fund set up with the aim of protecting workers who are fired from work without a valid reason. In this way, the employer must open an account linked to the employment contract of his employees, where he deposits 8% of his total salary per month.

In addition, FGTS also allows some annual withdrawals, such as exceptional withdrawals.

An exceptional withdrawal of one thousand Brazilian reais

The deadline for the FGTS Extraordinary Withdrawal Draw is coming to an end. The measure was announced by the government in April this year, and it authorizes each worker to withdraw up to R$1 million from their linked accounts. According to information from Caixa Econômica Federal, about 42 million people have managed to withdraw money, but 12 million have not yet completed the process.

The method works on an optional basis, therefore, those who do not wish to withdraw funds related to the fund, will only need to leave the balance in the account and wait for the end of the extraordinary withdrawal period for the amount to return to their original account. Another possible option is to access the Caixa Tem app and request a refund.

The deadline for withdrawing funds is December 15th, and the shareholder with less than R$1,000 in FGTS balance is also entitled to withdraw the available amount. On the other hand, those with higher sums must respect the limit set by the government.

How do you consult the extraordinary withdrawal?

Workers who wish to know if they are able to withdraw the amount must access the FGTS app available for iOS and Android (bit.ly/3XkU06L), or go to a Caixa Econômica branch with an identity document. In addition, the method is not available to those who have blocked resources or expected the withdrawal of the anniversary.

The resource was automatically credited into digital savings in the Caixa Tem app, which was created on behalf of the workers. Through the tool, transfers, payments and purchases can be made using a virtual debit card and cash withdrawals.

Another way to withdraw access to available FGTS resources is the anniversary withdrawal, which also works optionally. Those who choose this type of withdrawal can redeem a percentage of their account balance each year, always in their birth month. In addition to the amount withdrawn from the fund’s account, citizens also receive an additional amount of up to R$2,900.

However, the withdrawal in question results in the worker losing his right to withdraw the full FGTS in case of dismissal without good reason, but the 40% fine paid to the employer remains mandatory. If there is any doubt, it is possible to obtain information through the Guaranty Fund website or app.
