After eating a good meal, you can quickly feel tired and tell yourself how much you like to take a nap or just lie down for a few minutes. Fatal error! In fact, although feeling full can cause some bouts of tiredness or a desire to sleep, lying down right after eating can cause some digestive difficulties!

In fact, poor digestion does not help in weight loss. If a restorative nap continues to be beneficial to your health or well-being, it is best to avoid taking one immediately after eating, especially if it is right after Sunday lunch. Check out the text for more advice on marrying sleep and digestion.

Lying down after eating does not help digestion.

It is therefore advisable to wait between 1 and 3 hours after a meal, during which the digestive mechanisms are activated, before going to bed, sleeping or taking a short nap to relax, which on the contrary can be immediate to stimulate digestion. In fact, lying down right after eating will not facilitate digestion and can cause some gastric reflux or even indigestion.

Do you mean that even a holy rest after lunch is possible without you ending up sick? Well, unfortunately we do this caution simply, because of the law of gravity. In fact, the mechanisms of the digestive system will work less horizontally than vertically. Food and digestive juice, which are essential for digestion, actually tend to go up into the esophagus when lying down, when they should do the opposite.

Also, lying down, especially on your stomach, will put pressure on your diaphragm and thus your stomach gets to work. You should also avoid bending over or stooping into positions immediately after meals. These different positions can also cause some snoring or even a risk of sleep apnea.

    Fattening or not fattening?

After a meal, many people follow a few rituals to aid digestion: drink tea, take a nap, and eat some fruit. What if the things we’ve been doing for years without thinking about evil are really bad for our health?

So lying down after eating won’t make you fat, but it won’t promote good digestion. So it is best to delay your small digestive naps and prefer an upright position. So why not take a little digestive walk?

Walking can actually enhance transit and aid digestion. This physical exercise is especially indicated after a meal because it remains gentle and has the advantage of promoting upright posture, as well as working the intestinal muscles. There is no need to strain or run, in fact, intense physical activity immediately after a meal is not recommended.

However, you will rest better after a walk or some light stretching. The key is to find what fits your personal pace, needs, and desires without depriving yourself of what makes you feel good and keeps your digestive system healthy.
