A family has lost nearly 10,000 Brazilian reals after being scammed by a fake doctor in Varginha, south of Minas, according to information from the region’s military police. Humanitas Unimed Hospital has issued a warning on its official website about the coup.

The foundation said in the statement that one of the fraudsters was pretending to be a doctor and was going to contact the family by phone. On the call, he reported the health status of a patient who was taken to the hospital for surgery.

Thus, the fraudster said that the family will have to make an urgent payment so that the necessary checks can be carried out.

The Humanitas Unimed Hospital, where the patient is admitted, reported that the daughter answered the call and, in desperation, deposited the value to the man.

The text reads: “This scammer was impersonating a doctor and communicating with clients by phone and, when opened, reported the need to pay an urgent sum for tests in a special way.”

Civilian police said the case was under investigation. The health institution has informed that in case of doubts about any type of communication regarding payments and collections, on behalf of the hospital, simply contact the Treasury Sector by phone (35) 2106-4433 (Mon-Fri – 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. AM: 30 PM.
