England – Plymouth (25/08/2022 15:21, Gaudium Press) After touring America, the relics of St. Bernadette Soupres are visiting England, Scotland and Wales for the first time. The pilgrimage, which will take place between September and October, will start at the Basilica of Lourdes and stop at all the Catholic cathedrals in Great Britain.

On September 9, Plymouth Cathedral in southwest England receives the relics. The reception will be under the charge of a choir made up of students from Catholic schools in the region. Afterwards, visitors and pilgrims from as far as Devon, Cornwall and Dorset could come to the sanctuary to spend time in private prayer.
“We are blessed to have Bernadette with us, but really, she is physically with us within 24 hours. We hope to keep the kids engaged as she arrives on Friday. So we’ve got a number of schools in town and we’re going to ask them to do a welcome service for her, which will be lovely,” said Canon Mark O’Keefe, administrator of Plymouth Cathedral.
On September 9 and 10, there will be a special service in the cathedral and an evening candlelit procession, starting at 6 p.m. Before the relic departs, the faithful can attend a solemn Mass celebration, followed by the Anointing of the Sick.
The Bernadette effect
According to Canon O’Keeffe, the event will be a unique and special experience for local Catholics, as the visit of these relics will give the faithful the opportunity to feel the “Bernadette effect” in their lives, participating in sacrament-like ceremonies. Mass with Anointing of the Sick.
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the faithful have not had the opportunity to visit pilgrimage sites such as the Lourdes Sanctuary to pray for healing, enrichment and renewal.
