Last July 19, British Kirsty Knott, 33, spent a quiet morning and afternoon planning everything. Her five children were on a school trip and she could use the time to do some work. But all of a sudden his plans went awry.

The children’s tour was canceled and he decided to take all the children one day to Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot (Wales). What was supposed to be a quiet family event turned into a tense moment.

Kirsty was eight months pregnant and went into labor within minutes of reaching the beach. The children ran to the water, and she stayed on the sand to spread the yoke. That’s when he felt his water break. “I haven’t put my ass in the sand yet,” he told ITV.

Her husband, Shane Gregory, 36, was at work, and a friend who was supposed to accompany the family got stuck in traffic and couldn’t make it in time. Alone with five children, the mother felt the pain of contractions and had to turn to strangers for help. “I was in a panic, there were no familiar faces. I thought the baby was going to be born there on the beach,” she recalled. The mother says her main concern was for the delivery to happen quickly. Bleeding during the procedure, it happened. The birth of four of her six children.

Other bathers gradually came to the family’s aid and telephoned emergency service paramedics. As instructed by the medical team, the baby’s head was already crowned, so the woman lay down on the sand and took off her clothes. “Back then, I didn’t even care if I was naked in the middle of the beach, I didn’t care who saw what.”

Fortunately, an ambulance arrived just in time to help her and deliver the baby at the hospital. The doctors who arrived there noticed that her cervix was not in the right position and they needed to induce labor. It was then that little Tanner-Jacques Gregory Knott was born weighing 2.3 kg.

Kirsty’s fears were confirmed: she suffered another postpartum hemorrhage. According to the medical team, if the baby had been born on the beach, the story would not have had such a happy ending. Little Tanner-Jacks also contracted jaundice and had to stay in the hospital for four days. Both are safe at home now.
