The forest nursery of the Instituto Agua e Tira (IAT), located in Bato Branco, in the southwest of the state, will be the first of 19 existing nurseries to receive improvement measures through “Nursery Support”. The lawsuit was filed by Order No. 011/2022 It seeks to enhance the production of local and endangered species, in addition to promoting environmental education, improving infrastructure and maintaining state nurseries.

As part of activities targeting Environment Week, Everton Souza, Secretary for Sustainable Development and Tourism (SEEDST), signed Thursday (02) a plan for the renovation and expansion of buildings on the site. The volunteers are from Cooperativa Agropecuária Tradição (Coopertradição). The space will become a center for environmental education and the buildings will receive structural improvements.

The investment is 210 thousand Brazilian riyals. Coopertradição will contribute to the replacement of the greenhouse cover with tree seedlings, and the expansion and renovation of an existing house on the site, which will become a space for educational activities. The project begins this month and is expected to be completed in December.

The Secretary thanked the initiative and example. “It is an idea that seeks to bring the productive sector even closer. This support also brings benefits to society as a whole and the cooperative plays its part in social and environmental initiatives, not only in Pato Branco, but throughout the region.

The “Support a Nursery” procedure is part of the Paraná Mais Verde program and provides procedures at 19 IAT forest nurseries and seed laboratories. The initiative opens doors for individuals and legal entities subject to private law, national or foreign, to cooperate with places responsible for the production of about 100 species of native trees, including those that are endangered, with the current capacity to give to the community 3 million seedlings per year.

According to Sedest’s Director of Environmental Policy, Rafael Andreguetto, donors can provide goods, inputs or services that meet the needs of seed mills and nurseries. “This encourages ecological expansion and restoration, in addition to enhancing the state’s forest cover, and delivering more of the green message to the community,” he noted.

The regional head of the IAT in Branko, Flávia Natália Ostapiv, commented on the importance of the improvements to the site. “Our needs here are many, as the nursery has old buildings that are already degraded. This revitalization project, both for the greenhouses and for the house that will be converted into an environmental education center, is in line with what we seek today, which is sustainability and environmental education for the residents,” he explained.

For Coopertradição’s Director of Operations, Nédio Tonus, supporting these improvements is one way to achieve the environmental goals assumed by cooperative members. “We are providing employees to produce seedlings, whether those that will be used in afforestation, or those that will be used in cultivating eucalyptus, which will be used to promote more sustainable cultivation,” he noted.

    How to participate

The incubation support project is being implemented through the General Communication Notice 01/2022, and is open for proposals until October 14, 2022. The activities proposed in the work plan can be implemented by the supporter or through contract. Interested parties can learn more about the business over here.
