The UK has reopened its embassy in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The move was announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who blamed Russian forces for the “extraordinary strength and victory” of the Ukrainian opposition.
The move, adopted by Britain, follows France and Spain, which announced they would withdraw their embassies after being closed earlier this year due to the Russian invasion.
However, Britain withdrew its embassy in the Ukrainian capital in February, before Russia invaded the country.
Johnson traveled to Kiev earlier this month to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky and praised the “firm leadership”.
Russia has banned Boris from entering the country
In retaliation for the good relations between the United Kingdom and Ukraine, the President Russia bans Vladimir Putin from entering the country with Boris Johnson and other British officials.
Moscow announced the decision on April 16, saying the UK was working to isolate the country and exacerbate the ongoing crisis in Eastern Europe.
“British officials are deliberately aggravating the situation around Ukraine, supplying dangerous weapons to the Kiev regime and coordinating similar efforts on behalf of NATO. [aliança militar ocidental]”The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
