The international environmental awareness initiative Kada Lata Conta, which was established in the UK in 2009 and is already present in 19 countries, started today (20) in Marquês de Sapucaí, in Rio de Janeiro. Like never before, the event has been brought to Brazil by the Brazilian Association of Aluminum Can Manufacturers (Abralatas) and will be at the Sambadrome during all samba schools’ parades, including the Parade of Champions, on the 30th.

The initiative, which is also supported by the Independent Association of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro (Liesa), has programmed educational procedures, with the distribution of 3,000 biodegradable bags for the correct separation of waste. Cátilo Cândido stressed that the goal is to make the initiative now a successful case “so that it can be replicated and even improved at the upcoming carnivals”.
Abralatas teams, totaling 80 people, participate in environmental awareness actions along with pickers, being responsible for logistics, weighing materials collected and event production. Backpacks equipped with slots for assembling aluminum cans will be available to revelers.According to the president of Abralatas, the idea is to hold an event with a carnival face, fun and frolic. The teams will be distributed along the entire Passarela do Samba, in all rallies. The estimate is to collect about 5 tons of aluminum cans.
