Amazon lifts ban on UK Visa credit cards

A Amazon.com On its British website on Monday, it said it would not stop accepting Visa credit cards issued by the UK later this month and would work with Visa to resolve the dispute over payment fees, as proposed.

“The expected change in the use of Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk will not take place on January 19,” the company said in an email to customers.

“We are working closely with Visa for a viable solution at Amazon.co.uk that will allow customers to continue using their Visa credit cards.”

Amazon said in November it was banning the Visa card because of the high transaction fees charged by the payment processor.

Customers can still use Visa debit cards with Mastercard, Amex and Eurocard credit cards, the website said.

On Monday, a Visa spokesman said: “Amazon customers can continue to use Visa cards on Amazon.co.uk after January 19th, while we will work together to reach an agreement.”

In November, Visa said it was “very disappointing that Amazon is threatening to restrict consumer choice.”

After Brexit, the EU limit on card issuers’ fees is no longer in the UK.
