The rise in Govt-19 cases in the UK has hit another Premier League club. This Saturday, Aston Villa announced that coach Steven Gerrard had tested positive for the disease. As a result, he will not be able to command Birmingham in the next few games.

In fulfillment of the isolation, the Liverpool idol has already been ruled out of this Sunday’s clash, on home soil, against Chelsea, for the Premier League. Next Tuesday, without a coach, the villains will face Leeds outside the home. In the January 2 game against Brentford, it is not yet known if he will be there.

Especially with the spread of the Ômicron variant, the UK is facing an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, and more than a dozen matches have already been postponed due to outbursts at some clubs. According to the BBC, the Premier League has the lowest proportion of players vaccinated by two doses of the Covit-19 vaccine in the top five European leagues, of which 68% are athletes. Italy leads with 98%, followed by France (95%), Germany (94%) and Spain (90%).

This weekend, in the traditional round ‘Boxing Day’, which takes place the day after Christmas, three games have to be rescheduled: Liverpool x Leeds, Wolverhampton x Watford and Burnley x Everton.
