Workers have been waiting for the PIS/Pasep salary bonus since July, when it normally begins to be paid, but due to a decision by the Codefat Advisory Board, it has been postponed to 2022.

Despite the information on deferring the bonus for next year, the good news is that the feature will start to release in January, meaning we only have two more months for workers to finally get the bonus salary.

How will it be paid in 2022

Usually, the payment of the salary bonus begins in July and ends only in June of the following year, in the calendar that occurs according to the month of the worker’s birthday.

However, for 2022, the PIS / Pasep allowance must be paid in the month of the worker’s birthday i.e. January birthdays receive in January, birthdays in February receive in February and so on.

Novelty has already been confirmed for payment by Codefat through Resolution 891/2021 Which states in its third article, paragraph 2: Salary bonus amounts will be paid from January to December of each year, to selected workers based on information provided by employers, in the previous year.

The change in the payment schedule also came in the same Codefat decision that decided to postpone the payment of PIS/Pasep to 2022.

The new payment schedule will be available in January and will run from January to December. The calendar will also be determined and issued by Codefat.

For those who don’t know, Codefat is the board in charge of FAT money management (Fundo de Amparo ao Trabalhador) responsible for managing PIS/Pasep unemployment insurance and payroll bonuses.

Codefat has representatives of the three categories interested in these benefits, i.e. representatives of workers, employers and government.

    Double salary bonus

Another change that may occur in 2022 is the payment of the salary bonus which has to be paid twice to workers. This is because the PIS/Pasep that will be paid next year belong to those who worked in 2020 and 2021.

According to the rule of salary bonus, it is paid in the year following the year in which the workers are engaged, i.e. those who worked with an official contract in 2021 should get it in 2022.

So, for next year we have the deferred allowance, ie the base year 2020 that should have been paid this year and the 2021 base year allowance already scheduled for next year.

Thus, workers who meet the entitlement rules to receive base year benefits 2020 and 2021 can access both PIS/Pasep allowances simultaneously.

It should be noted that this possibility is still not specified by the government, as what we have confirmed so far is the payment of the salary bonus for the year 2020, however, since the payment rule has not changed, the benefit is expected to double after that year.

    Salary bonus amount

It should be noted that the salary bonus pays the amount of minimum wages to the workers, depending on the number of months worked in the calendar year, that is, those who worked all year receive a salary, while those who worked less receive a proportional wage.

The calculation is simple, those who worked for one month receive 1/12 of the salary, those who worked for two months receive 2/12 of the salary and so on.

However, since entitlement can be doubled for those who were eligible for the base year allowance 2020 as well as for those who were eligible for the base year allowance 2021, many workers may receive minimum wages in the following year of the allowance.

Workers who worked year-round in 2020 and 2021 will be able to get two salaries, so many of them can get a premium amount of PIS/Pasep next year.
