The Wuhan Marathon, which was supposed to take place on Sunday (24), has been postponed almost without warning due to fears of an increase in cases COVID-19 employment ChinaBefore the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
The Chinese capital on Sunday recorded 26 new local cases of Covid-19, the latest outbreak of a zero-tolerance policy test for the virus, 100 days before the Games start.
Authorities are trying to contain the virus infection with widespread testing and targeted containment.
But with the increase in cases, the organizers of the Wuhan Marathon said in a statement that they would postpone the race in the city in central China “to avoid the risk of the spread of the epidemic.”

The event was expected to attract 26,000 participants to the city, where the coronavirus was first identified in late 2019.
The organizing committee reported that it will refund the registration fees to the participants.
China has been able to significantly reduce Covid infections with a robust testing campaign and strict border controls.
It is unclear whether the Beijing Marathon will be held next Sunday (31).
