The Bahia Health Department (Cesap) has already laid off 1,657 beds for Covid-19 patients after the number of infected people in the state decreased. The health agency claims that most of them are back in the care of patients with other illnesses.
After receiving 2840 patients, The Arena Fonte Nova Field Hospital in Salvador has been demobilized. The unit was set up as one of the references for the care of patients diagnosed with Covid-19, and ran over two shifts on site: In 2020, from June 7 to October 16, and in 2021, from March 4 to September 6.
As the hospital, which has reached 200 beds, is laid off, the equipment will be redistributed to the various auxiliary units in the CESAP network. The CT will only remain until December in the space provided by Arena Fonte Nova, in case there is a potential need to reactivate the unit. The gas network will also be maintained.
“The pandemic has shown that waves come and go. We’ve seen the US, UK, and some countries already showing signs that we now seem to be able to get it under control, but as long as the entire planet is not vaccinated, we are in danger,” Acting Health Minister Theresa Baim said.

At the height of the epidemic, Bahia had 1,624 intensive care unit (ICU) beds and 1,835 clinics. There are currently 905 intensive care units and 897 physicians. According to Sisap, a total of 719 intensive care unit beds and 938 clinics have been laid off.
“People have stayed home, many people with stroke, hypertension and diabetes, today they need ICU beds as well. So, as we’re laying off Covid ICU beds, we’re bringing most of them back to non-Covid,” said Theresa Baim.
With the disease remission, the city of Salvador has also implemented gradual layoffs. At this time, influenza has already been disabled in the neighborhoods of São Cristovao, Beiraja, Baribe and Ilha de Bom Jesus dos Passos, as well as the respiratory support unit in Valeria, Evangelico Hospital, Santa Clara and Campanha de Itapua Hospital.
At the height of the epidemic, Salvador had 266 intensive care unit (ICU) beds and 331 clinics. There are currently 69 doctors in the intensive care unit and 91 doctors.
According to the Municipal Health Service (SMS), a total of 197 ICU beds and 240 clinics have been discharged.
