Today, the Ministry of Defense announced that the United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with missile launchers with a range of up to 80 km to counter the Russian attack, following the example of the United States.

The ministry said the M270 MLRS systems “will significantly increase the capacity of Ukrainian forces”. The decision was taken in “close coordination” with Washington, which last week announced the supply of HIMARS equipment with a range of 80 km, ie multiple rocket launchers mounted on light armored vehicles.

Ukrainians have been calling for rocket launchers for some time to attack Russian positions while installing their batteries far from the front. However, the US President, Joe BidenHe ruled out providing Ukraine with long-range missile launch systems that could reach Russia, to prevent the United States from being seen as a party to the fighting.

Britain’s Defense Secretary, Ben Wallace, defended “if the international community maintains its support, Ukraine can win.” He added that “Russia’s strategy is changing, and our support must also change,” stressing that the new weapons will allow the Ukrainians “better protection against the brutal use of long-range artillery, which Putin’s forces resorted to indiscriminately to crush cities.” .

Britain’s total military support to Ukraine now totals US$937 million.
