Study Suggests Intermittent Fasting May Help Reduce Diabetes – News

A small study conducted by Chinese researchers provided encouraging results regarding the effects of intermittent fasting in controlling type 2 diabetes.

In an article published in Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism This week, the group of scientists analyzed data from 36 people with diabetes who followed an intermittent fasting diet for three months.

In the end, they noted that nearly 90% of the participants, including those who used medication, reduced their medication use after this period.

In addition, 55% of this total were in diabetes remission, and were able to stop using medications for the disease and remain so for at least one year.

According to the authors, the findings contradict the view that there is only remission of diabetes if an individual has had the condition for less than six years.

In 65% of the cases studied, the mean disease duration ranged from 6 to 11 years.

says one of the study’s authors, researcher Dongbo Liu, of Hunan Agricultural University.

According to him, the research shows that intermittent fasting and Chinese medicinal diet therapy succeeded in ridding the majority of participants of diabetes, and that the results “could have a significant impact on the more than 537 million adults worldwide who suffer from this disease.”

The intermittent fasting diet basically consists of eating only meals during a set period of time.

Fasting for a certain period of time or even a few days has served some people as an effective way to lose weight.

However, specialists point out the importance of starting this type of diet only with professional supervision, either from a doctor or nutritionist. No one should give up diabetes medications without supervision.
