The nominees for the 2024 Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday (23). Despite some very well-deserved nominations – including those of America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling for “Best Actress/Supporting Actor” – the other “snub” gave something worth talking about. Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig, star and director of “Barbie,” respectively, were not nominated in the major categories.

Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken Doll in the film, spoke out in a statement obtained by The Wrap. The star commented that he was honored to be nominated. “I am extremely honored to be nominated by my peers alongside these outstanding artists in a year filled with so many amazing filmsGosling said. He added: “And I never thought I'd say this, but I also feel incredibly proud and honored to embody a plastic doll named Ken“.

But the actor came out in defense of his “Barbie” colleagues, who were ignored in the director and best actress categories. “But there's no Ken without Barbie, and there's no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this historic and universally celebrated film.Ryan announced.

The “The Notebook” star continued: “No one in the film would be recognized without their talent, courage and genius. To say I'm disappointed they weren't nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.“.

Gosling praised the film's production and the work of Margot and Greta: “Against all odds, and with nothing but a pair of soulless, scantily clad dolls, they thankfully made us laugh, broke our hearts, promoted culture, and made history. Their work should be recognized alongside the other nominees, who are also very deserving of it.

He concluded by saying that he was happy with the nominations of his other colleagues: “However, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other amazing artists who contributed their talents to the making of this groundbreaking film. The production received eight Academy Award nominations, including the Best Picture category, with two nominations in the Best Original Song category, for Billie Eilish's “What Was I Made For?” and “I'm Just Ken.” By Mark Ronson and Ryan Gosling, the film also received acclaim in the fields of “Adapted Screenplay”, “Production Design”, “Costume Design” and others.

Earlier, actress America Ferrera also revealed that she was disturbed by the issue.“I was very disappointed that they were not nominated.”“, declared the actress. She was full of praise for her colleagues: “They are my girls and I want to see their amazing work celebrated. They made history, they set a new standard. Not only did they break box office records, they also did something that resonated around the world, and the impact of what they did will continue to be felt in our culture. I believe I I add my voice to the many people who would like to see them recognized in this way.”America said. Click here to see the actress's full statement.
