Rio – Today, Saturday (6), the municipality of Rio began an influenza vaccination campaign for all people over the age of six months. According to the municipal health minister, Daniel Soranz, the goal is to increase vaccination coverage for Rio's residents.

In previous years, vaccination was available to the entire population only at the end of the campaign, but according to the secretary, there were many doses of the vaccine remaining due to low adherence among priority groups.

Sorans also noted that there are 600,000 doses available throughout the municipality. The vaccine protects against three different serotypes of the disease: H1N1 Victoria, H3N2 Thailand, and B Austria.

“It is expected that all these doses will be administered to the population within two weeks. We still insist that priority groups come, get vaccinated and protect themselves,” the minister said.

After the end of the public health emergency due to dengue fever in Rio de Janeiro, all 11 service centers for the disease caused by Aedes aegypti were converted into vaccination points for influenza, the disease that tends to dominate the country's epidemiological landscape. The coming weeks. There are currently 190 people in hospital in the city due to complications from the flu, which has already killed 13 people this year.

As winter approaches and influenza cases increase, SMS alerts residents to be vaccinated. The dose is annual: Anyone who was vaccinated last year needs a new dose this year. For those who have already taken the vaccine, the vaccination schedule is one dose.

The vaccine is available in primary care units (municipal health centers and family clinics). The 238 primary care units are open Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, and on Saturdays from 8 am to 12 noon.

Annual flu vaccine: Anyone who was vaccinated last year needs to get a new dose this year. In 2024, the formula used in the campaign protects against the three influenza virus strains that spread last year in the Southern Hemisphere: H1N1 Victoria, H3N2 Thailand, and B Austria. For those who have already taken the vaccine, the vaccination schedule is one dose. For children in the aforementioned age group who will receive the vaccine for the first time, there will be two doses, 30 days apart.

To obtain the vaccination, the user must go to the health unit with his identity document and vaccination booklet.
