“Rebel Moon”: How did Zack Snyder’s idea of “Star Wars” turn into a series and then a two-part movie | Movie theater

Zack Snyder talks about “Rebel Moon” (“Star Wars”)

‘Rebel Moon – Part 1: The Fire Girl’ will be released on Friday (22nd) as the first film in a (potentially) great new series of films from director Zack Snyder – the man who has a lot of fans passionate about his version of ‘Justice’. League” (2021) as well as opponents.

But things could have been very different. A while ago, in a galaxy not far away, a sci-fi space movie released on Netflix could have been part of another similar series.

“I had this idea for a movie in the style of The Damned Twelve, The Seven Oceans set in space, a long time ago. It was something I thought would be cool. I’ve always been a fan of Star Wars, and I thought… “Just living out a childhood fantasy.”

Watch the video above, in which he tells the story of the production.

Fire Girl tells the story of a mysterious young woman (Sofia Boutella) on a planet of farmers who travels across the galaxy in search of allies to prevent the extermination of her people at the hands of a large and powerful (and evil) Empire. .

In addition to Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), the cast also includes Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Ed Skrein, and Michiel Huisman (who played the same role in Game of Thrones, Dario Naharis). Djimon Hounsou (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) and Ray Fisher (“Justice League”).

The 57-year-old American approached Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy around the time he finished Man of Steel (2013) – which would kick off what is known as the “Snyderverse” of DC’s comic book adaptations.

“Even if they let me, I wouldn’t be able to do it for a while. But we were talking. It all seemed really cool. But I was reading the news and I was like, ‘Wait, they just sold.'” Star Wars to Disney. How could this affect this thing?’” says the director.

It affected that it didn’t happen. The idea remained for years, until the partnership between the director and the video platform, which began with “Army of the Dead: Invasion of Las Vegas” (2021) and also gave birth to a derivative of it, “Army of Thieves: Invasion of Las Vegas.” “Europe” (2021).

“When I got home, Debbie (Snyder, the director’s wife and producer) said, ‘You know what? It’s best not to do that to them. Because you are having problems with DC right now. You feel trapped. In a “box with them. Just imagine how crazy the box would be with Star Wars. The cannon is crazy.”

The new “Rebel Moon” was born as a series. But Snyder preferred the safe language he knew best.

“I said, ‘You know what? I’m just going to make a movie. I know how to do it. Scenario. This is madness.”

Anyone who wants to know how it will end won’t have to wait that long. ‘Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scar Marker’ will premiere on April 19, 2024.
