Newspapers from other countries reported this Monday (26) about the street style skateboarding winners of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, drawing attention to the youngsters of the first winners: 13-year-old Japan’s Momiji Nishiya won the gold and 13-year-old Brazilian Risa Leal won With a silver medal.
In third place was another Japanese, Funa Nakayama, who is 16 years old.
The Washington Post, one of the most important newspapers in the US, said the teen’s victory is an argument girls around the world can use to try to convince their parents that they should be able to skate too.
The New York Times described Raisa as “an energetic teenager with flowing hair and a big smile who tried to be the youngest person to win a gold medal in Olympic history.”
Clarin, from Argentina, posted a text comparing skateboarding to another Olympic sport: “There were three teens on the podium. Something that seemed, some time ago, reserved for artistic gymnastics.”
The Guardian from the UK remembered the youngest female athlete to win a gold medal: Marjorie Gestring, who was 13 years and 268 days old when she won the Olympic jump in 1936.
Ski “fairy”
At age 13, Risa Leal became the youngest Brazilian to win an Olympic medal – and the seventh youngest medalist in the entire history of the Summer Olympics.
In addition, she is the youngest athlete in the history of Brazil at the Olympic Games. The previous record was held by Talita Rodriguez, the swimmer who reached the finals of the 4x100m freestyle in 1948, at the London Games.
Risa, better known as Fadina, is four months younger than the winner, Momiji Nishiya.
