Chicken has become an essential fowl for agriculture, providing meat and eggs, and is widely used in a variety of recipes and industrial products. The wild version, known as Gallus gallus, originated in Southeast Asia, in the rainforests of China, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and India.
They were drawn to the forest expanses and edges in search of food and protection, and they have spread to various other areas. It is estimated that its domestication began around 6000 BC.
At first, they become an object of interest thanks to their feathering and egg production. Over time, it was realized that birds were a rich source of protein and started to be slaughtered.
Thanks to the trade routes, chickens began to be sold in different parts of the world, and gained popularity. In Greece and Rome, they were associated with Demeter and Ceres, the goddesses of fertility and agriculture.
