A building under construction collapsed this afternoon in Washington, DC, injuring at least five people.

According to the local NBC website, a man who was working on the building has already been rescued. He was conscious and talking to the fire department. It has yet to be confirmed in what part of the five-story building, according to Chief Rescuers John Donnelly.

Four other workers were pulled from the rubble shortly after the collapse. According to the fire department, none of them were seriously injured.

Officials told NBC that two homes adjacent to the building had to be emptied, but that they were initially not in danger of collapsing.

“I thought it was thunder,” Karen Wood, who owns a flower shop, told local television.

A strong wind gust of nearly 100 km/h surrounded the site at the time of the collapse.

Firefighters said it was still too early to know the cause of the collapse.

According to the records on the website, which is determined from the title of the case, the building will become a condominium called “The Ralph”.
