Consumer complaints website Reclame Aqui monitored an increase in complaints related to purchases on the eve of Black Friday compared to the same period last year. Between 12pm on Wednesday (22nd) and 7pm on Thursday (23rd), there were 6,172 in 2023, and 4,513 in 2022, representing a 36.8% increase in the volume of complaints. In the early hours of Friday 11/24, the report monitored the site and found complaints from consumers who waited until midnight to purchase. “No promotion,” said one complainant.

The majority of complaints registered between Wednesday and Thursday refer to delivery problems, which placed logistics and express delivery companies at the top of the facilities targeted for complaints. Reclame Aqui says consumer complaints include purchases made in periods prior to this Thursday, as Black Friday promotions began in October, although the official date is the fourth Friday in November.

Delays in product delivery mean the offer is not met, according to lawyer Alexandre Salomao Gabrado at Trench Rossi Watanabe. “In this case, consumers can at their choice request: immediate delivery of the product, delivery of a product of the same quality, or cancel the purchase and receive a full refund.”

False advertising is another frequent cause of customer complaints, cited as a problem in 15.49% of complaints recorded by Reclame Aqui. The report showed that since the beginning of the month, items in high demand on the promotional date, such as mobile phones, washing machines, refrigerators and televisions, have seen their prices rise, according to a survey conducted by the Zoom/Buscapé group. .

Between October 29 and November 11, mobile phones and smartphones accumulated a 4.67% increase. Washing machines 5.75%. Refrigerators and televisions, 1.3% and 1%, respectively.
Artificially lowering prices is false advertising, and constitutes a crime punishable by a fine and one year imprisonment, according to the Consumer Protection Law.

Care

Another danger of Black Friday is scams: It is necessary to verify the origin of the purchase site. Procon-SP has released a list of 78 websites that consumers should avoid on Black Friday. Companies that did not respond to consumer complaints even after being notified by the Defense Agency are included in the rankings.

The number of sites Procon recommends avoiding has almost doubled compared to last year. In the list, the consumer can see the URLs of the pages (website address), the CNPJ and the name of the responsible company. (with fullpress)

Check out 10 safety tips this Black Friday

  1. – Give preference to well-known sites for shopping and check the reputation of unknown sites on complaint pages
  2. – Be very careful with promotional emails that contain links. When you receive an unsolicited email, check if it is actually from a reputable company. Access the site by entering data into the browser and not clicking on the links
  3. – Always be wary of companies that ask for down payments and promise long-term delivery
  4. – Carefully check the payment methods offered by e-commerce and be skeptical when there are few options
  5. – Beware of promotions whose prices are much lower than the actual value of the product
  6. – Check if the page has a seal of authentication and a compatible number of followers. Be careful of newly created pages
  7. – Give preference to using the virtual card when purchasing online
  8. – If you are making a purchase in person using the card, always check the amount before entering your password
  9. – If purchasing in person, insert the card into the device yourself. If you have given the card to the seller, always check that the returned card is actually yours.
  10. – If you pay with Pix, always pay within the virtual store environment. When a retailer offers a QR code, carefully check all payment details and whether the chosen store is actually the one that will receive the money. Do not transfer until after this detailed examination. The same advice applies to payments using bank vouchers
