From February 26 to March 1, the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) participated in a diplomatic mission from the Government of Brazil to the United Kingdom focusing on the low-carbon hydrogen sector. The aim is to learn about the United Kingdom's experience in the hydrogen sector through technical meetings with representatives from various British government departments, experts and technical visits to research and innovation centres.

The head of ANP's Center for Research and Technical Analysis (CPT), Alex Medeiros, was part of the Brazilian delegation, representatives of bodies and institutions participating in the development of public policies on hydrogen in Brazil, such as the Ministry. Mines and Energy (MME), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Ministry of Finance, National Electric Power Agency (Aneel) and Energy Research Institute (EPE), Inmetro and Ministry of National Integration etc.

Members of the delegation undertook technical visits which included one of the UK's largest industrial decarbonisation projects, the Tees Valley Industrial Estate in the Teesside region. Among its facilities, the complex includes several projects aimed at low-carbon hydrogen, CCUS (carbon capture, utilization and storage) and SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) production. They also attended Deeside University meetings.

Brazil and the United Kingdom on 12/3/2023, during COP 28, formalized a bilateral agreement for the development and creation of clean and renewable energy: the Brazil-United Kingdom Hydrogen Hub, which aims to support Brazil in the implementation of national hydrogen. Plan (PNH 2).

ANP is part of the PNH2 management team and Alex Medeiros is the agency's representative on the board.
