Recorded by a tourist walking through South Africa

On a walk through Phinda Game Lodge Park, in South Africa, a tourist photographed an African python parading with a giant lizard in the wild. Rudolf Strydom said he noticed the commotion and soon noticed the snake dragging the huge animal.

“The snake managed to get a good bite around the head of the lizard. Then it started to coil around the animal, which ended up immobilizing it with the force of the snake. With each fight of the lizard, the snake increases its range.”

Unlike venomous snakes, snakes kill their prey by wrapping their powerful bodies around it and squeezing it until it suffocates. This technique is very effective and allows the snake to take down prey much larger than itself. - Image: latest sights / ND

“After successfully restraining the lizard, the snake started to drag it towards some nearby bushes. With quite ease, the snake was able to drag the lizard through the sand into the bushes, out of sight,” he recalls.

“I could not believe my eyes as I watched the snake pull the lizard away. I knew I was witnessing a truly rare and wonderful sight that I will never forget. Although I could not observe the actual consumption of the lizard, I was sure that the snake would fall asleep with a full belly.” – Image: latest sights / ND
